Join Us In Person
In my last message concerning COVID-19, I told you that the Church Council and myself would be meeting at least twice weekly to monitor the situation and take appropriate actions based on the most current information available to us. Since our last meeting the situation has changed and after careful consideration and prayer, we have deemed that a different course of action is now needed. We have decided to follow the recommendations offered by the CDC, President Trump, Gov. Pritzker, and Mayor Feinen. We regretfully announce that we must temporarily suspend our regularly scheduled worship services, effective immediately through and including April 1. We do not wish to deprive the members and friends of Friendship Lutheran Church of Joy the opportunity to hear God’s word of forgiveness, grace, eternal life and salvation our Lord Jesus Christ has won for us on the cross. We do not make this decision out of fear, but out of love for each one of you. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Tim 1:7)
We are working to continue to provide both the mid-week sermon series, “Eyes on Jesus”, and our Sunday services (with some minor adjustments to the format) available on the Friendship website and on our Facebook page. This will make it easy for you to share the good news of Jesus Christ on whatever social network platforms that you may utilize. Just because the services are being temporarily altered, does not mean that we are to put sharing the Gospel on hold.
Please know that I will miss seeing each of you as we face this unique challenge, but I look forward to the day when we can gather for (extra) lively worship and praise of our great God once again.
It is with full acknowledgement of the current situation that we, the church leaders of Friendship Lutheran Church of Joy, will continue to meet at least twice weekly to assess any new information that may allow us to return to our regular worship schedule. We will keep you informed. Continue to pray for those who are ill, those who are especially vulnerable, your friends, your neighbors, those being laid off, your church, The Church, your pastor, and each other. Remember, that although not a direct quote from the Bible, “THIS TOO SHALL PASS” is a timely reminder that the difficult season we may be going through will not last forever.
God bless you during this time and remember that, “His Steadfast Love Endures Forever – Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures” (Psalm 136:22).
Servant of Christ,
